Hand Washing Technique
In this toolkit, the educator will be provided a step-by-step video on how to show the individual steps for hand washing. This material can serve as a guidance to follow until the person does the steps automatically.

This toolkit will assist you as an educator in teaching a person with dependence difficulties on how to keep up their hand hygiene, focusing on hand washing. It would be best that the educator provide the materials to the participants in class and participants attending online. For individuals with low independence, it would be beneficial to keep a set of flash cards handy near the sink which is used for hand washing. This will provide more guidance to the person on what steps are needed for the tasks to be concluded. For the individuals participating online, the flashcards can be screen shared or else sent via email. The next stop for this toolkit would be that the educator projects this video - https://youtu.be/jYMrn0gRJyM and explain verbally what is being done. This will help individuals in identifying what is needed to be done and visualize the step-by-step task. It is of great importance that the final step would be for practice. The individuals attending physically, will have to have a basin nearby in order to practice this technique. For participants attending online, they can share their videos via a video call so therefore they can receive feedback from the educator and the rest of the classroom.

If the participant is able to follow the step-by-step visuals, it would be easier for the person to have more guidance and copy what is being done in the video. The person would need to tackle the steps in a calm way to avoid missing a step.
